“The values of used RVs sold at wholesale auctions rose across the board last month. This is the time of year we usually expect prices to start rising as dealers actively begin restocking their lots to be ready when their first customers start to arrive,” said Eric Lawrence at Black Book, in his monthly report. “Given the current popularity of RVs, the spring surge is more pronounced than usual, leading to all-time record prices in each of the segments we track.

“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $62,967, which is up $3,875 (6.5 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $21,821, up $1,450 (7.1 percent) from last month.  One year ago the average motor home sold for $47,454 and the average towable unit brought $14,834.”

Auction volume was up for all market segments: motorhomes increased 19.2 percent while towables rose 9.1 percent, Lawrence said.

The average age of motorhomes was twelve years old (2009), and towables was six (2015).Black Book grphics
