East Coast Dealers Coping With Power Outages
“Most auto and RV dealerships in Connecticut are up and running,” said James Fleming, president of the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association. “Either they’ve gotten their power restored or they have auxiliary power so the can do business.”
Connecticut was reported as being hit the hardest, with more than 75 percent of the pubic experiencing power outages, according to news provider masslive.com.
“Our power was restored this morning. We opened around 8:30 a.m.,” Dave Pendell, a salesman at Crowley RV Center in Bristol, Conn., told RV PRO. Crowley’s remained closed Monday through Wednesday this week due to the power outage.
Walter Hynes, president of the New Jersey RV Dealers Association and the general manager of Scotts Motorcoach RV Center in Lakewood, N.J., said many areas in west and north New Jersey were still out of power today.
Campgrounds in northern New Jersey and in eastern Pennsylvania., in Bucks County, are inaccessible because of the roads and downed trees,” Hynes said.
Gary Threlfall, owner of Garick RV located in Oak Ridge, N.J., said power at his dealership was restored this morning after it received more than 19 inches of snow during the weekend.
“When we came back in Monday morning we had no modern conveniences,” he told RV Pro. “We set up generators on Monday, but we kind of packed it in after lunch and gave up. But on Tuesday and Wednesday it gave us the opportunity to winterize our lot for the winter."
Nor’ easters are storms characterized by the volume of moisture they deliiver.
“The killer was, the leaves were still on the trees. So when some really wet heavy snow piles on the branches, you see branches just breaking all over the place,” Threlfall said.
