U.S. Towable Sales Grow in May

RV dealer towable sales recovered from a stagnant April and increased 11 percent in May, according to analyst firm Robert W. Baird, citing data by Statistical Surveys. Towable sales dipped 2 percent in April.

U.S. towable sales are up 10 percent this year through May. Travel trailer registrations increased 13 percent in May and are up 12 percent year-to-date. Fifth wheel sales remained flat in May, but remain up four percent through May year-to-date.

“Dealer inventory has thinned after relatively aggressive stocking ahead of the spring season,” Barid stated. “While dealers have indicated that overall inventory levels are too low, many have noted a willingness to wait to increase orders.”

Theseasonally adjusted rate (SAAR) of retail registrations rose to 179,000 units in May, up from 177,000 units in April. Slightly more than 160,000 units were sold in the U.S. in 2011.
