34 Catalytic Converters Stolen from Texas RV Dealership

Catalytic converterThey fetch a lot of money for thieves, and are expensive to replace.

Catalytic converter theft in and around the Austin area continues after a locally owned RV dealership had 34 catalytic converters stolen in the middle of the night.

Kent West, the owner of American Dream Vacations RV Sales and Rentals, released a security camera video of two individuals seen on the dealership’s property last week.

“We started an RV Tuesday morning and it sounded like an airplane taking off. We know what that sound means, and we just started looking at every vehicle out here,” West said. “They did a pretty good job of staying out of the cameras, but we saw two of them that came in the back of the property. It seems like in about three hours they systematically just ran through their business.”

Catalytic converter theft has become a reoccurring crime in the Austin area.

Austin Police data shows theft of motor vehicle parts was up 60 percent last year. There were over 2,700 reported instances in 2021 compared to over 1,700 in 2020.
