Black Book: April a ‘Crazy Month’ in Wholesale RV Sales

RV for auction

Black Book reports that the average selling price for motorized units in April was $36,470, which is down $10,984 (23 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $13,631, down $1,203 (8 percent) from March. A year ago in April, the average used motorhome sold for $42,879 and the average towable unit brought $14,333.

“It was certainly a crazy month in the wholesale RV space. Looking at the graphs below, it’s clear that in April, values declined across the board, especially for motorized units, but keep in mind that the volume dropped off dramatically as well,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst of specialty markets for Black Book. “All auctions were online only, and several were either closed entirely or operating at a fraction of their capacity. As more RV auctions reopen, and with dealers seeing a solid uptick in consumer demand, volume should increase, and values should stabilize.”
