Ind. Gov. Holcomb Renews Health Emergency

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb extended the COVID-19 public health emergency in Indiana and urged Hoosiers to get vaccinated as the Delta variant drives new coronavirus cases, South Bend Tribune reported.

The more contagious Delta variant made up 86.7 percent of positive COVID-19 tests in Indiana this month alone. With roughly 57 percent of the state not fully vaccinated, health experts predict a spike in COVID-19 infections.

Showing concern over the variant, Thursday’s executive orders said Hoosiers are “strongly encouraged” to get vaccinated.

“All Hoosiers, and each and every person within the Hoosier state, should take responsibility for their safety and the health and safety of those around them by taking appropriate preventative measures,” one of the two new executive orders states. “This is particularly important due to the high transmissibility of the Delta variant of COVID-19.”
