Adding space and functionality to one of the company’s most popular bunkhouse floorplans, Heartland RVs has introduced the 3800 RLB in its Gateway full-profile fifth wheel lineup, creating “true dual-zone living” with a loft and an attached half-bath built into the bunkroom area.
Heartland reported in a news release that the five-slide floorplan offers sleeping capacity for up to nine people while giving families a private, spacious children’s playroom in the rear of the coach that opens to over 8 feet across with the opposing slide rooms extended.
“The Gateway 3800 RLB is one of the most unique floorpans to hit the market,” General Manager Paul Craven said, noting the model will be showcased at the Sept. 22-24 Elkhart County RV Open House. “The idea was to build on the success of the bath-and-a-half bunk configuration that has been a proven seller for dealers.
Craven offered some insight into the design of the unit, as well.
“The key was to incorporate the loft, which has a built-in stairwell, not a hanging ladder, into the bunk area,” he said. “We were able to achieve that by using a flat roofline to create more headroom.”
The 41-foot, 8-inch fifth wheel, with base MSRPs in the mid-$50,000 range, also includes standard recliners in the sofa and a 40-inch LED TV. For outdoor entertaining, the 3800 RLB is equipped with an entertainment center off the rear of the coach along with an outside kitchen.
“While our focus was to reinvent the bunkroom area, we still wanted to provide RVers with a residential-style environment with upscale features and a full-featured electronics package,” Craven said. “We also have seen rising demand for bringing those comforts to the outdoors. With the outside entertainment center and kitchen, RVers will be able to relax and enjoy their campground.”
Other features include an optional residential refrigerator, six-point leveling system and a fireplace. A king-size bed is optional while a standard day bed in the bunkroom offers a pullout trundle bed for additional sleeping.
“The Gateway team has really brought a groundbreaking product to market,” Heartland President Chris Hermon said. “The 3800 RLB gives our dealer body an advantage in the highly popular bunkhouse segment with a floorplan that consumers will be drawn to.”
