Towing and trailer equipment maker Horizon Global Corp. has entered into an agreement with Spectrum Brands providing Horizon, including its Cequent and TriMotive divisions, the exclusive right to utilize SmartKey security from its Kwikset brand in a wide range of applications.

“For years, people have trusted Kwikset to help secure their homes,” said Mike Sislo, vice president and general manager of TriMotive Americas. “This agreement allows us to extend those security features to Horizon’s premium branded vehicle accessories.”

SmartKey security allows homeowners the flexibility to re-key all of their Kwikset SmartKey locks for one-key convenience, Horizon said in a news release. The technology would allow users to use one key to secure both their homes and automotive accessories.

With the agreement between Horizon and Spectrum Brands, this technology will be installed on hitches, fifth wheels, ball mounts, bike racks, cargo management products, and more, and will be utilized on products in the OE, aftermarket, and retail spaces.

SmartKey products also pass the most stringent lock-picking standards (UL 437, par. 11.6) and utilize BumpGuard to prevent lock bumping, providing additional security to your home and automotive accessories.

“The quality and performance of the SmartKey technology makes Kwikset the perfect brand to pair with the Horizon family of brands and products,” said Francis Bernart, divisional marketing, product management, and engineering officer of Cequent. “Including this technology with known and trusted brands like Reese, Draw-Tite, BULLDOG, and ROLA provides an extra layer of security to our customers, allowing them to know their premium towing product is locked safely in place when they’re not around.”

Products including the SmartKey technology will be on display at the 2016 SEMA show, Booth No. 30087, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas. The show runs from Nov. 1 to Nov. 4.
