If you were thinking about attending Kampgrounds of America’s next Campground Buyer’s Workshop on Oct. 21-22 in Fort Collins, Colo., you’re going to have to put your name on a waiting list, or wait until next time.
The Fort Collins workshop, which is being held at the Fort Collins/Lakeside KOA Holiday, is sold out almost a month in advance of the event.
“Owning a KOA campground is obviously a very popular dream right now,” said KOA Vice President of System Development and Franchise Sales Chris Fairlee. “We can usually accommodate about 50 to 60 people at each of our seminars around the country, and this is the third one in a row that we have sold out.”
The workshops are designed to give participants a unique look at the inner workings of a campground, and offers a chance for hands-on learning to help understand exactly what goes into owning a campground.
“We want to help them decide if owning a KOA campground is right for them,” Fairlee said. “After they attend the workshop, they will be able to make an informed decision if owning a campground is the right personal and professional decision.”
The seminars cover topics including:
- Understanding the camping industry
- The campground buying process
- Campground pricing models
- KOA franchising
- The campground operations process
- The campground selling process

Campground lending representatives are also on hand to talk about financing options for a KOA campground purchase. A campground insurance representative from Leavitt Recreation and Hospitality Insurance also covers insurance issues regarding campground ownership.
Veteran KOA campground owners – often husband and wife teams – are there for a question and answer session, and the KOA Home Office Sales Team is also on hand.
KOA hosts at least two Buyer’s Workshops each year. The next one will be in the spring of 2018. The dates and locations are yet to be announced.
