For county leaders, the expansion plans for the RV/MH Hall of Fame have prompted them to shift their sights to an area that maybe wasn’t even on their radar before, the Elkhart Truth reports.
Darryl Searer, the president of the Hall of Fame, has said he hopes to break ground on the Hall’s expansion by 2020, although the exact time frame will be determined by how fast the group can raise money for the project.
Mike Yoder, an Elkhart County commissioner, says the county will begin to explore the idea of a larger convention hall besides the RV Hall of Fame expansion plans. Maybe something that will attract more groups to the area.
“We want to know if there is a market out there that wants additional space,” Yoder said.
The county is in the early stages of seeking a study on whether Elkhart County is losing out by not having enough convention space.
“Some have mentioned an indoor sports facility, which are highly utilized around the state,” Yoder said. “We want to know if we build a 500,000- to 600,000-square-foot facility if it can become self-sustaining.”
