December '22 capped off an amazing three-year run for the industry.

The RV Industry Association’s final survey of manufacturers for 2022 revealed that the industry ended the year with 493,268 units shipped, the third highest of any year on record.

“Coming off of the all-time high in 2021, the RV industry continued to post strong shipments through the first half of 2022,” said RV Industry Association President and CEO Craig Kirby. “As expected, we saw shipment numbers normalize off of those record highs in the second half of the year as the industry returned to production numbers seen pre-COVID.”

In December only, total RV shipments for the month were 19,907 units, a decrease of 50.7% compared to the 40,347 units shipped in December 2021. Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month down 54.6% against last December with 16,771 shipments. Motorhomes finished the month down 8.8% compared to the same month last year with 3,136 units. Park Model RVs finished December up 56.6% compared to the same month last year, with 382 wholesale shipments. Park model RVs closed 2022 up 20.4% compared to 2021 with 4,723 shipments.

Total RV shipments for the full year 2022 decreased 17.8% from the all-time record of 600,240 set in 2021. Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended 2022 down 20.1% against 2021 with 434,858 wholesale shipments. Motorhomes finished the year up 3.9% compared to 2021 with 58,410 units. Park Model RVs finished the year up 20.4% compared to 2021 with 4,723 units shipped.

“Our industry builds a product that allows people to prioritize not only spending time with family and friends but also experiencing the many physical and mental health benefits of being in the great outdoors,” Kirby added. “With so many younger and more diverse buyers flocking to RV travel in the past few years, the long-term future of the RV industry remains bright.”
