600-Site RV Resort Coming to Florida in 2021

A 600-site luxury RV resort will be built next year on 177-acres of undeveloped land bordering Little Orange Lake about 15 miles east of Gainesville, Fla. Plaza Lodge expects to break ground on Little Orange Lake RV Resort next fall with the first phase of the resort opening by spring of 2021.

“This is going to be a beautiful resort,” said Ed Mayer, managing partner of Plaza Lodge. “We have 4,000 linear feet of shoreline along the 800-acre lake.”

The resort will include 40- by 80-foot RV sites, as well as modular cottages, all of which will be available for rent. Lake amenities will include a fishing pier and a boat launch area as well as a gazebo on the waterfront.

Plans are also underway to develop recreational amenities, including ziplines and all-terrain vehicle trails on the 177-acre property.

“There continues to be very strong demand for high-quality RV resorts in Florida,” said Mayer, a longtime RV resort operator and developer.

Mayer has developed several RV resorts in Florida. He currently owns and operates Elite Resorts at Salt Springs, which is expanding by adding 24 large sites this fall, each of which has an average of 7,500 square feet.

“The reality is that demand for high-quality RV sites exceeds the supply in Florida,” Mayer said, “which is why I feel confident expanding existing parks and building new RV resorts in the Florida market.”
