ARVC Online Education Portal Debuts

The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) has announced its NFPA 1194 Completion Certification class will be available on Monday, Feb. 10, making it the first class available as part of the new ARVC Online Education Portal.

The NFPA 1194 class provides guidance to park owners in interpreting the NFPA 1194 standards, a nationally recognized standard developed, maintained and published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Annually held in-person during the Outdoor Hospitality Conference and Expo, the class will now also be available for learners to access online at their convenience.

The NFPA 1194 class features interactive videos and activities. The course is designed to provide campground owners with confidence in applying the standards to their park and understanding how to use them when they are having conversations with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). The class highlights key topic areas including general park design, water and sanitation, fire and electrical.

“Knowledge of the NFPA 1194 is vital if you are planning to build, remodel or expand your park, as it serves as a road map for what you should and shouldn’t do,” said Jeff Sims, ARVC’s senior director of state relations and program advocacy. “You can give a copy to your engineers and it will show you the way to do things right, the first time. … The ability to offer this course year-round will save campgrounds money on planning and construction costs if any issues are brought up during the construction process by AHJs, such as zoning boards, health inspectors, etc.”

“ARVC’s in-person education programs have been, and will remain, a vital part of our mission, but having the ability to allow easy access to our educational opportunities and classes is a huge benefit for the entire outdoor hospitality industry,” said Paula Horwitz, ARVC executive director of education and events. “We are able to offer our top-notch learning opportunities but have removed the hurdle of having to travel to attend.”

The NFPA 1194 course will be available for purchase at www.arvc.org/Online-Education starting Monday, Feb. 10, for an introductory price of $249 for ARVC members, with a regular price of $299. The non-member rate will be $599.
