The following is a report from Auto Evolution.
For the time being, the LEGO set you see before you can’t be found in some Walmart near you. That’s because the “Earthroamer,” as it’s been dubbed, isn’t yet a real project, yet. But with a tad of support from us brick-heads, we can help KingCalculatingFace100 (KCF100) to get this toy in the hands of LEGO shot-callers and, hopefully, under our trees by this year’s Christmas.
Now, if you’re familiar with LEGO Ideas, then you have a very clear understanding of what we’re looking at. If you don’t, no biggie; a refresher course is commencing. What makes this side of the timeless toy brand so neat is the fact that people like you and me submit their toy set ideas.
First, you’ll need to use special software that allows you to create a concept with real and existing pieces. Once you’re happy with it, post your design on the Ideas website and hope for the best. If you somehow reach 10,000 supporters, your idea will then be up for debate by LEGO decision-makers. Only then will it hit store shelves.
All that brings us to this Earthroamer, which, sadly, will probably never make it to market. Why? Well, if the real Earthroamer or LEGO would ever create such a project, they’d do it through a collaboration and never through a third party that probably doesn’t work at either of the two companies. There’s no need to point out any obvious branding or copyright issues either. But that doesn’t mean that KCF100’s idea isn’t worth noting; it’s actually pretty cool and even does things.
According to the KCF100’s Lego Ideas page, this project includes over 2,000 pieces, and with those bits, the designer was able to bring to life a camper that doesn’t just look like an Earthroamer but even behaves like one. KCF even has a scene where the habitat is unloaded from the chassis and just hanging out under some imaginary tree. Inside and outside, LEGO people can carry out a diverse range of activities; we’ll get to all that shortly.
First, let’s start off with the fact that this is a proverbial overland machine, and as such, an off-road suspension system has been integrated into the design. Be sure to take a look at the image gallery to see it in action. As you do, there’s a scene where we can even see this toy’s winch in action. Pretty neat if you ask me. AT tires are also part of the deal.
