“For the first time in several months, one of the major RV market segments has declined in value: Motorhomes dropped seven percent, falling for the first time since February, and while towables once again increased, it was by under one percent, their smallest gain since last November,” said Eric Lawrence at Black Book, in his most recent monthly report. “Is continued increased new production helping supply finally catch up with demand, or is this just a normal market fluctuation?
“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $69,953, which is down $5,536 (7.3 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $24,280, up $140 (1.0 percent) from last month. One year ago, the average motor home sold for $56,259 and the average towable unit brought $18,280,” Lawrence said.
Auction volume was mixed: motorhomes dropped 19.1 percent while towables rose 5.3 percent.
The average age of motorhomes was twelve years old (2009), and towables was five (2016).
