An early morning storm caused significant damage to the building in Elkhart, Ind., but injured none of the employees working inside an industrial plant on the city’s northwest side Wednesday.
This story by Matthew Straw originally appeared in The Elkhart Truth.
The AACOA plant, a division of Bonnell Aluminum, located at 2551 County Road 10W, was the only building reported damaged by the storm, which ripped through the area between 1 and 1:30 a.m.
Plant manager Lewis Bell said employees were hunkered down in secured locations by the time he arrived moments after the storm hit.
“I had about 40 employees here,” Bell said. “They all made it out safely with no major injuries.”
The building, on the other hand, “took a beating.”
“Looks like some type of wind storm came through, and it ripped about a 50- by 200-foot section out of the middle of this building and pushed it onto the building next to us,” Bell said.
