Cummins Taps New VP of Financial Planning, Capital Management & Investor Relations
Cummins Inc. announced the appointment of James Hopkins to the newly created role of vice president – financial planning, capital management and investor relations, effective Sept. 1.

In this role, Hopkins will lead the company’s financial planning, forecasting, target-setting, internal reporting and analysis activities, while also overseeing capital expenditures and investor engagement. He will also work closely with business segment controllers and finance teams across Cummins to help drive strong financial performance and support the company’s long-term strategic priorities.
“Throughout his career, James has demonstrated strong financial leadership, broad business knowledge and a deep commitment to developing people,” said Mark Smith, vice president and chief financial officer. “His experience across finance, strategy, investor relations and operations, combined with his strong relationships with investors and other stakeholders, make him exceptionally well suited for this role.”
The appointment reflects Cummins’ ongoing commitment to leadership development, succession planning and building organizational capability to support long-term growth, the company said.
In his current role as vice president – engine business finance & strategy, Hopkins has applied his finance and strategy expertise to support one of Cummins’ core businesses. Throughout his Cummins career, he has built broad experience across finance, strategy, investor relations and operations, earning the trust of internal and external stakeholders while providing critical insight, decision support and leadership. He is also deeply committed to developing the next generation of Finance leaders and strengthening talent across the organization.
Hopkins earned an MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Economics and Public Policy from Indiana University.
