Dometic Service, a division of Dometic Corp., is sending company technicians to the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Texas for certification training before deploying them into the field as part of a pilot program.
Launching in the Orlando area this summer, the Dometic Service program will help alleviate service backlogs at RV dealerships by sending trained technicians directly to customers who experience a breakdown with any Dometic product. The certified mobile RV technicians will operate in company-branded vans to serve RV owners at campgrounds or wherever they need help.
“Our goal is to get help to our customers as quickly as we can if they ever experience a problem with one of our products,” said Jay Vaarre, Dometic service director. “We are branding the tech teams as ‘Your mobile RV and outdoor care specialists.’”
Dometic manufactures several products installed in many RVs and purchased separately by RV owners, including refrigerators, air conditioners, vents, awnings, portable coolers and freezers. The company plans to either staff its own branded service vans or work with mobile RV technicians as independent contractors to fix problems that may arise.
“We want our end users to be outdoors enjoying our products, not waiting to get their equipment serviced in the event of a breakdown,” said Vaarre.
The company opted to pay for professional technician training at NRVTA because of the academy’s reputation, hands-on training capabilities and the fact the school is tuned into the specific needs of RV owners, he said.
“When you look at a school that is developed with RV end users as the building block for its business, Dometic is looking forward to working with NRVTA to continue education not only for our technicians, but also for customers who know how to use their rigs – or need to know how to use them,” said Vaarre.
“We are pleased Dometic chose to have their company technicians trained at our school,” said Terry “Cooper” Cooper, president of NRVTA. “With the classroom instruction and hands-on labs students experience at NRVTA, I am confident Dometic Service’s technicians will be fully capable of diagnosing and fixing any problem they encounter in the field.
“These elite technicians will be on Dometic’s frontline to help cut down service times and improve customer experience to ensure enjoy even better satisfaction when using the company’s products,” Cooper added.
Putting teams of technicians on the road is never as easy as it seems, said Vaarre. Not only do they need to be skilled at diagnosing and repairing Dometic equipment, they also need a thorough understanding of an RV as a system, including how electricity and propane works, he explained.
