Members of FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association), the world’s largest nonprofit association for RV owners, will gather in Redmond, Oregon, Aug. 14-17 to enjoy good times and activities related to RV life.
More than 700 RVs will converge on the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center for FMCA’s 109th International Convention & RV Expo, Presented By Beaver Coach Sales, with the theme “Adventure Peaks.” The event isn’t just for FMCA members. Anyone interested in the RV lifestyle is invited to participate.
“RV travel is all about embracing the spirit of adventure and the fun and freedom that come with it. We’re welcoming all current RV owners plus those considering purchasing an RV to join us in Redmond in August as we host this super-size RV event,” said Doug Uhlenbrock, FMCA director of events. “There’s no better way to learn about RVing and to celebrate RV life while spending time with some fantastic people who share your passion for exploring North America by RV.”
One key activity during the four-plus days of the event will be a RV Expo, with some of the latest RVs on display, along with a large assemblage of related products and services. In addition, attendees can soak up knowledge; approximately 100 seminar sessions with topics ranging from chassis maintenance and RV solar systems to full-time RVing and convection-microwave cooking will be presented. Daytime and evening entertainment and social activities will fill the schedule as well.
As noted, members of the public are encouraged to join the festivities. Various options are available. Folks who already own an RV are invited to come stay on site in their home on wheels to take full advantage of all the activities. The gate registration price for that is $270 and grants RV owners who are new to FMCA a one-year FMCA membership. (An additional fee is charged for electric).
Individuals considering the purchase of an RV may wish to come just for the RV Expo and tour the RVs and other exhibits. Single-day admission for the RV Expo costs $10 per person or $25 for a family of three or more; children 12 and under are admitted free with an accompanying adult. Individuals with an active military ID are admitted free as well.
RV Expo exhibit hours are Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, Aug 15-16, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The day pass for Aug. 14 also will be good for Thursday, Aug. 15.
For a deeper immersion, FMCA suggests that individuals sign up for a Daily Passport that covers not only the RV Expo but all seminars and entertainment (everything but on-site RV parking). A Daily Passport costs $50 per day per person.
On Friday, Aug. 16, a seminar geared expressly for people exploring the idea of RV ownership will take place with a panel of RV owners sharing their knowledge. “RV Curious? Come Join Us?” will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Lava Room of the South Sister Building (Seminar 5). This seminar is open to everyone, especially non-owners who are at the event to find out more about the RV lifestyle.
Free public parking will be available by following the signs to the Passport/Public Parking area near the Galloway Lane Public Gate off Central Oregon Drive.
