Indiana local news sources, including today’s The Elkhart Truth, reported that Forest River will lay off 160 employees at four plants in Elkhart and Bristol, starting Dec. 31, 2024.
According to the article in The Elkhart Truth, as well as the details in the WARN notice, no separation benefits or bumping rights will be provided to the welders, sales representatives, inspectors and other employees who worked at the plants. The news source also noted that these layoffs follow the closure of Plant 77 in Goshen in spring, affecting 83 workers.
On Oct. 31, Forest River announced a reorganization of its cargo division, which included the upcoming year-end closure of its Ocilla, Georgia-based manufacturing facility and consolidating four Elkhart County cargo trailer facilities into two existing locations.
Earlier in October, the company also announced it would be closing its California-based manufacturing facilities in Hemet and Rialto, California, impacting approximately 400 employees and marking Forest River’s exit from the state in a manufacturing capacity.
Sources at Forest River confirmed that “per the WARN, affected workers include 104 employees at Plant 16, 31 employees at Plant 24, 17 employees at Plant 46, and 8 employees at Plant 96.”
Forest River did not have additional comments to provide at this time.
