General RV Center will break ground on a new superstore on Dixie Highway near Clarkston in Springfield Township, Mich., at 11 a.m. on July 17.
The store will be a significant upgrade to the current White Lake, Mich., store, said Bill Brown, store manager, and it will add 30 new jobs.
“When we opened the White Lake store in 1984, we had 12 employees and 50 RVs on the lot,” Brown said. “Now we have 55 employees and 240 RVs in stock. We’ve needed to expand for a while now, and this is a well-deserved upgrade for our loyal customers and hardworking employees.”
Brown said he predicts the new store, which will service northern Oakland and Macomb counties, will double or triple business.
Located at Interstate 75 and Dixie Highway, the Springfield Township superstore is the first business to build according to the new Dixie Design Guidelines. General RV Center worked closely with the Springfield Township planning commission to make sure the design and details of the store conformed and complemented the township ordinances.
Spread across 20 acres, the new store will have 16 service bays and more than 300 RVs on its lot. The front of the store looks different than any other General RV Center location as a result of beautification of Dixie Highway by the township.
The superstore will feature low-lying prairie style architecture, reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs, and includes extensive landscaping, especially along Dixie Highway, said Brown. There will also be a trail in the back of the property, near a natural pond.
“This superstore will be a major upgrade,” said Loren Baidas, president of General RV Center. “We are committed to providing an industry-leading experience for our customers, and that’s exactly what this state-of-the-art facility will allow us to do.”
