Grand Rapids Show Draws Youth

The Grand Rapids Camper, Travel and RV Show at DeVos Place is bigger than ever, taking up all of the available floor space inside the convention center, the Grand Gallery and the Steelcase Ballroom, according to Michigan Live.

But Bruce Ter Veen, general manager of General RV Sales, said he expects the smaller and lighter RVs that can be towed by a van or SUV will get more attention than the humongous rolling palaces that are self-contained or need a heavy-duty pickup truck to haul them on a 5th wheel.

Today’s RV owner wants to travel lighter and with more flexibility, says Ter Veen. “A lot of them are never going to stay at a campground,” he said.

Instead, young families prefer moving around, visiting national parks or setting up in wilderness areas that are off the grid, he said.
