James “Jim” Henry Slocum, 75, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 10, at home.
He was born in South Bend, Ind., on Dec. 3, 1942, to Clyde Orville and Lucille Maude Slocum.
He was one of seven children.
In 1974, Jim opened Trophy Tops, a truck cover business, designing his own unique style for both aluminum and wood frame truck covers.
He was the builder, delivery driver and salesman, working with his brothers and others at various times.

He married Cheryl Kaye Davidson on March 16, 1963, in Elkhart.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, and his children, Wendy Ellis, Cindy Skaggs and Tracy Bussard, and nine grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Patrick and Gerald and sisters Joan and Patricia.
A funeral service in memory of Jim was held on Monday at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Byars officiating.
