Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) announced that the Wilmington KOA Holiday has completed a new amenity expansion, adding two new Paw Pen Sites to their campground.
The new pet friendly sites are positioned on big rig-friendly back-end RV Sites, each with an oversized, fenced-in space with a concrete patio with patio furniture, Weber grill, fire feature and pet waste station. These two new Paw Pen RV Sites compliment three existing Paw Pen Deluxe Cabin Sites. Wilmington KOA Holiday is pleased to now offer private fenced Paw Pen options for both RV campers and cabin guests.
For many campers, off-leash space is a deciding factor. According to KOA’s 2026 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, 42% of campers who camp with their dogs say they won’t book a campground where they can’t let their dog off-leash.
“So many of our guests consider their dogs part of the family, and we want those dogs to have a good camping experience too,” said Micah Tomaselli, owner of the Wilmington KOA Holiday. “Our new Paw Pen Sites let campers relax knowing their pups can play safely off-leash. Wilmington is one of the most dog-friendly communities on the North Carolina coast. Beginning Oct. 1, the start of what locals call “local summer,” Wrightsville Beach welcomes leashed dogs, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach lift their daytime restrictions on dogs, and Freeman Park opens its off-leash season for dogs.
