Employees at Lippert Components in Elkhart have volunteered for service projects in the community since 2017. This year’s effort is being done a little differently, but they’re making it work with some changes.
This week, Lippert components is working with Welch Packaging and continuing its annual service program to help area nonprofits. It’s part of volunteer week being conducted in-house.
In years past, volunteers often went to different nonprofits to lend a hand.
“We’ve never done this before, but we wanted to get creative and find a way to give back to the nonprofits who serve so many of our team members,” said Director of Corporate & Community Impact Michilah Grimes. “They serve so many of our community members and they are in need too right now, they’re hurting just like everyone else.”

With the pandemic, they found a way to do the volunteer work inside.
“We took one of our buildings and turned it into a line, where each night we have five different lines and are packing ten items per bag, so in one night we will pack 10,000 items,” said Grimes.
