Goshen City Council members Tuesday will be asked to consider a land annexation request that if approved could lead to the construction of a major multi-facility development by Lippert Components.

During the meeting, council members will hear a request by Lippert Components Inc. for annexation by the city of approximately 330 acres of land located at 16629 C.R. 36, just southeast of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds on the city’s south side.
Council members got the ball rolling on the annexation request during their Oct. 24 meeting, and will be asked to approve the request on first reading Tuesday. Should the request be approved on first reading, the request will then move forward for a second and final reading at a future meeting.
According to Mark Brinson, community development director for the city, Lippert officials plan to use the property as the location of a new manufacturing facility focused on light manufacturing, research and development with the potential for multiple facilities at the site.
The company builds components for the RV industry.
Goshen Mayor Jeremy Stutsman also noted during the meeting that the annexation will not include any homes that are located near the property, and will instead be reserved solely for the industrial land in question.
While no homes within the site area are currently included in the proposed annexation plan, Brinson noted that once the annexation process begins, nearby residents will receive notification from the city that the process has begun.
The council will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of the Goshen Police and Courts Building, 111 E. Jefferson St., Goshen.
