Since nüCamp arrived on the spot, the Amish-built, Ohio-based manufacturer has been a leader of the pack in the teardrop category, winning numerous awards along the way. But with the debut of the AVIA at RVX – a 28-foot, European-inspired trailer – nüCamp proves its innovation can’t be contained in a teardrop.
“We just figured it was time that we build something that has a chance for a bigger part of the market to see,” said Jason Miller, an account executive at nüCamp. “Because the teardrop market is such a small part of the industry.”
The interior vastness is immediately noticeable with the stargazer windows surrounding the dinette in the front of the trailer. The completely separate shower and toilet is made better since the bathroom telescopes out into the center of the unit. It’s the type of space-saving ingenuity one might expect from a manufacturer who has had to innovate on a smaller scale.
The overall sleek design cannot be overlooked. The cabinetry, as well as the slat bedsprings for the foldable queen-size bed, have a direct European influence; and little embellishments like a motion-sensor lighted handle breathe life into the shell of the unit made from a Lamilux 4000 fiberglass skin. The bones of the AVIA (MSRP $65,000) are made of aluminum, using Azdel sidewalls.
In terms of functionality, an Alde radiant heat and flow system course throughout the unit with 1,200-watt inverter powering the trailer. As for appliances, the kitchen boasts deluxe spice racks and a Dometic three-burner stove and a convection microwave oven from Contoure.
As of Open House, nüCamp had about 40 AVIAs on dealership lots. Now, the manufacturer hopes for word to spread that there is a bag of new tricks.
“Now it’s about helping dealers realize that they can get something that’s a lot bigger than a teardrop,” said Miller, “but with the same nüCamp quality and assurance that their product is going to hold up.”
