The French Quarter RV resort is packed with visitors in town to celebrate Mardi Gras.
Managers at the resort say they are booked and expect over 50 RVs this weekend. Several visitors who drove in said this is not their first time in New Orleans.
Rebecca Hamm and Chelle Hughes enjoyed sisterly bonding at the park on Thursday. They brought their RV from the Nashville area.
“Every couple of years we come to Mardi Gras,” Hamm said.
This visit is special. They are getting ready to get a different view of Mardi Gras. They are riding with the Krewe of Orpheus.
“We want to see what really helps Mardi Gras be Mardi Gras,” she said. “Being a crewmember, we think we’ll be able to achieve that.
Hughes said New Orleans is in their blood, making it hard for them to stay away.
“The energy, the good wholehearted energy, that’s in the city that keeps us coming back.
New Orleans and Company said the city’s downtown hotel occupancy could be in the 90% range.
Mardi Gras generated $14 million in taxes for the state of Louisiana in 2023.
A study done by Tulane University shows that Mardi Gras has a $90 million impact on the city’s local economy.
Mardi Gras is a great example of why we were built to host super bowls and all other types of events,” she said. “So New Orleans can pull this off every year do it so well. if people are looking to travel by RV and other means, we know that New Orleans is one of the hottest destinations right now”
