The National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) has announced the addition of Saturday training sessions to its 2020 education calendar.
The first session begins Feb. 29 and will feature classes typically included in the one-week introductory RV maintenance course.
Students will meet five consecutive Saturdays, and, upon successful completion, they can take a test to become registered RV technicians with the RV Industry Association.
“Due to the exceptional demand for trained technicians, we realized that many people are looking at a possible career in RV service, but it’s hard for them to get training when they already have full-time jobs,” said Terry Cooper, NRVTA executive director.
Eventually, all advanced training classes will offer Saturday sessions. That will allow people to become certified RV technicians in 21 weeks.
The RV maintenance course costs $1,644 plus tools, which typically cost less than $200 for that course. Students have the option of paying $399 each week. Participation is limited to 25 students per session.
People who complete the entire course can also return again to retake the course or an individual class as a refresher at no additional charge.
Current RV technicians who see opportunities to provide mobile RV service will appreciate the Saturday classes, said Cooper.
“Attending classes on weekends will not only help current RV technicians to do their jobs better but also will open the door for them to launch businesses of their own,” he added. “Registered RV technicians can often make up to $35,000 per year. … Those who venture out as mobile RV technicians generally earn at least $100,000 their first year in businesses of their own.”
