ActsofService.com is expanding its mission, enabling individuals, in addition to employees of partnering businesses, to log on at any time and find a local volunteer opportunity.
“We’re excited to directly connect people with nonprofits in their community,” said Michilah Grimes, Acts of Service director.
Acts of Service was inspired by Lippert Components’ 100,000 Hours of Community Service initiative.
“The platform makes it easy for people who care about their community and want to get involved but don’t know where to start,” Grimes said. “We’re thrilled to help bridge the gap between volunteers and nonprofits.”
With an up-to-date community calendar, the website makes it easy and accessible for individuals or employers to find local nonprofit volunteer opportunities. Starting today, anyone can log on and sign up to volunteer whenever they have a spare hour, afternoon or even a day.
More than 100,000 volunteer hours have been logged on the site since it was launched last year. Acts of Service hopes to double that number and has set a 2018 goal to reach 200,000 volunteer hours.
In addition to making volunteerism convenient and easy, the site allows groups or companies to set team goals, record and track collective and individual team member volunteer hours, and report their community impact.
“This platform is perfect for everyone from high school students looking for community service hours to busy professionals looking to make an impact but are unable to commit to long-term volunteer obligations,” said Grimes.
“With the help of Acts of Service volunteers, we were able to transform school libraries into 21st century learning spaces and school courtyards into learning gardens,” said Ashley Molyneaux, Elkhart Education Foundation executive director. “Acts of Service volunteers helped us save fundraising dollars for other critical needs and engage new supporters in our mission.”
Acts of Service also plans to expand beyond the Michiana, Ind., community to connect volunteers with local nonprofits in communities across the country.
