One of the Largest Black-Owned RV Resorts Opening June 1

Time Away RV Resort owners

Nate and Alicia Lawson

Nathan and Alicia Lawson are on schedule to open their Time Away RV Resort on June 1, fulfilling their dream of owning and operating their own campground.

“It’s been a lot of hard work, but it has been an incredible experience to build this park from the ground up and to reach the point where we are ready for business,” Nathan Lawson said.

“We are very busy putting some finishing touches on the park before opening. But we’re very excited,” Alicia Lawson said. “We are already sold out every weekend in June, although we still have availability during the week.”

The 100-site park, which features pull-through RV sites with full hookups, is one of the nation’s largest black-owned campgrounds, Alicia Lawson said, adding that she is running the park as a family business with her daughters, Arlinda and Shirley.

Time Away RV Resort is just a five-minute walk from Talladega Speedway. Amenities include a family swimming pool, a kid’s playground, a dog park, as well as a bathhouse, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi. Volleyball and basketball courts are also available as well as a walking trail. Tiny houses and trailers will be available to rent in Phase 2 construction.

Camping enthusiasts who make reservations at Time Away RV Resort during the month of June can become “Founding Members” and will be guaranteed a rate of $40 a night. RV enthusiasts who cannot come to the park in June can still become Founding Members by donating their RV site to a veteran.

RV enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to purchase a personalized brick for $225 to help the Lawsons create a special brick pathway to honor veterans and other people who are heroes in the lives of the park’s visitors. Some of the proceeds will also be used to help the Lawsons add more amenities to the park.

The Lawsons are especially respectful of veterans. Nathan Lawson served in the U.S. Army and their son, Terrance, recently completed nine years of service in the U.S. Army, including service in Afghanistan.

The Lawsons, who are originally from Ohio, have been avid RV enthusiasts for many years. They hope Time Away RV Resort becomes a venue that provides many happy memories for their guests in the months and years ahead, they said.
