The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable released statistics Tuesday that show 4.5 million Americans work in the outdoor recreation economy. The roles range from guiding and outfitting to sustainability, finance, marketing, land management, advanced materials manufacturing, environmental science, and more.
In addition to a video highlighting outdoor careers, the Recreation Roundtable provides an Outdoor Workforce Hub, which debuted on the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable’s new website earlier this year. The workforce hub features interactive tools to help employers, educators, and those interested in joining the outdoor recreation industry, as well as those looking to expand their careers in the sector. The tools include, among other items:
- A new Roadmap for a 21st Century Outdoor Workforce
- A map of nearly 250 higher education, trade and training programs for outdoor careers
- A primer on outdoor recreation-related jobs and existing research to help prospective talent, industry leaders, educators, and policymakers alike understand the breadth and depth of outdoor careers
