A proposal for an expanded RV storage lot for the General RV Center at 14000 Automall Drive in Illinois will be up for consideration at Monday’s Huntley Plan Commission meeting.
The family-owned dealership is seeking approval of an amended special use permit for recreational vehicle sales, final plat of consolidation and site plan review.
This story by Drew Zimmerman originally appeared in the Northwest Herald.
General RV began as a 33,280-square-foot showroom and maintenance building with 150 parking stalls for recreational vehicles on an 8.28-acre site.
The dealership expanded in 2013 on a about 4.5 acre site to the north. This included a 13,240-square-foot recreational vehicle service building with office space and an additional 92 parking stalls for RVs.
After buying 8 acres of land on the former site of the Huntley Outlet Center last year, the Huntley Village Board approved an 18,409-square-foot addition to General RV’s maintenance department in the main building.
Additional paving was proposed adjacent to the north, east and south elevations of the building addition and an area of RV storage was proposed to be converted into 43 employee parking spaces.
This was the second major expansion for General RV and was aimed to accommodate a larger inventory of recreational vehicles.
The plan commission meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Huntley Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St.
