The RV market has moved out of the peak summer selling season and into its traditional fall cooldown, and wholesale prices are following their normal seasonal pattern, National Powersport Auctions (NPA) said in its September report. The pre-owned segment continues to show real strength. RV and camper average wholesale prices (AWP) landed 17% above year-ago levels, one of the strongest year-over-year gains across all vehicle categories, despite easing in the short term. For dealers, this stretch of the calendar remains one of the best windows to acquire quality pre-owned inventory at favorable wholesale prices.
Pre-Owned Remains Strong
Even with prices easing month over month, used RV and camper values remain elevated compared with a year ago, reflecting sustained retail demand and the continued value of quality used inventory, NPA said. Clean product continues to command a premium even as broader averages retreat, a gap that has widened in recent months. Dealers who buy strategically this fall can capitalize on seasonal pricing while maintaining healthy margin potential.
Inventory remains plentiful across motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels and campers, giving dealers a broad selection to meet customer demand. Buyers continue to favor clean, well-maintained, retail-ready units, making inventory quality more important than ever.
Buy Smart, Price Carefully
With AWP expected to retreat month over month into the winter, disciplined inventory management matters. Timely write-downs and expedited liquidation timelines for owned inventory are a must as the market moves lower. Be cautious with book values when taking trades, as AWP in most categories remains well below guidebook thresholds, NPA said. Keep your focus on the lanes by tracking values and availability. With market bottoms approaching, this is a great time for well-positioned buyers to take advantage of seasonal trends.
