One of the participants in CalARVC’s Software Education Day on Feb. 27, which is open to park operators across the country, is ResNexus, a 13-year-old reservation software company that helps more than 2,400 properties run their business effectively.
“We’re a family based business. We consider the properties we serve family and we do our best to help them succeed. Because when they grow, we grow,” said Nathan Mayfield, who serves as the company’s president.
“My brother, James Mayfield, is the owner and visionary. He built one of the first cloud-based reservation software systems—ResNexus was in the cloud before anybody even knew what the cloud was.”
ResNexus started in early 2005 by developing cloud-based reservation software for the bed and breakfast industry. At the time, very few properties were allowing online reservations and the up-and-coming Expedia was focused on the hotel industry.
“My brother hit the road selling the system to local bed and breakfasts throughout Utah and other parts of the country,” Mayfield said. “After a couple of months James would follow up with the new clients and ask them how their business was doing. He was shocked to find that many of them said that their business had more than doubled by taking online reservations.”
ResNexus has subsequently expanded to include other segments of the tourism industry, including hotels, vacation rentals as well as campgrounds and RV parks, the latter of which it started to take as clients in late 2014.
“We currently work with 2,446 properties, including 278 campgrounds,” Mayfield said.
The ResNexus system is easily customizable and allows park operators to customize the layout to fit their brand. In addition, the photos are more than 200 percent larger than most other reservation systems.
“It’s completely customizable,” Mayfield said. “You can put the calendar on the left or the right, change the colors and more.”
The ResNexus software has automatic rate management capability and allows guests to make additional online retail purchases, such as kayak or canoe rental or other products, services and activities which are available through the campground.
ResNexus also has point-of-sale capabilities for a general store, which includes inventory controls.
“One of the most impressive tools is its automatic marketing,” Mayfield said, noting that ResNexus automatically sends guests a welcome email with directions on how to get to the park as well as a thank you email to increase social media and Google Reviews.
In addition, the ResNexus system can send out newsletters as well as targeted marketing pitches to previous guests for birthdays, anniversaries and other special events.
ResNexus is one of six companies that plans to present software at CalARVC’s Software Education Day.
