Black Book recently released its RV auction findings as summer approaches, showing that the average selling price for motorized units was $42,879, which is up $111 (0.3%) from the previous month. Towables came in at $14,333, up $756 (5.5%) from last month. One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $42,591 and the average towable unit brought $13,792.
“As we make the transition from the end of spring to the beginning of summer, interest in used RVs remains strong,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst of specialty markets. “Dealers are reporting good traffic on their lots and websites, and the auction companies have seen their volumes rise a significant amount. Motorized units are up for their fourth consecutive month, while travel trailers and fifth wheels, led by the lighter, easier to tow models, have increased five out of the past six months.”
Auction volume was up significantly: 36% for motorized and 15% for towables. The average age of motorized units was eight years old (2011), while towables were a bit older at nine (2010).
