Black Book recently reported that the average selling price for motorized units was $42,768, which is up $922 (2.2%) from the previous month. Towables came in at $13,577, up $745 (5.8%) from last month. One year ago, the average motor home sold for $45,453 and the average towable unit brought $13,519.
“Spring has officially arrived, and many dealers have been reporting increased activity on their lots,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst for Black Book’s specialty markets. “Auction volume was up slightly over last month, with wholesale prices increasing as well. Used motorized values have risen for three months in a row, with three out of four increasing for towables. With shipments of some new units being a bit slower than in recent years, many dealers are using their used units’ lower price points as a way to attract additional buyers.”
Auction volume was up slightly: 2% for motorized and 4% for towables.
The average age of motorized units was nine years old (2010), while towables were a bit younger at eight (2011).
