The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act last week. This economic stimulus plan to address the impact of COVID-19 includes many provisions that apply to employers, such as paid sick leave for employees affected by COVID-19 and those serving as caregivers for individuals with COVID-19.

The bill passed on a bipartisan 363-40 vote and will likely be approved by the Senate this week when technical corrections are approved by the House. President Trump has indicated he supports the legislation and could sign it this week.

The bill significantly changes and expands the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) on a temporary basis. The employee threshold would extend to any workplace with fewer than 500 employees.

The bill also gives the Secretary of Labor the authority to issue regulations to exempt some small businesses with fewer than 50 employees when the imposition of such requirements would “jeopardize the viability of the business as a going concern.” The bill also includes tax credits to help small businesses pay for these benefits.

The RV Dealers Association has compiled these resources from leading employment law firms. RVDA will provide more information to members once the Families First Coronavirus Response Act becomes law.
