A fire at a Forest River plant Wednesday afternoon resulted in fire and water damage to the building but no injuries.
Battalion Chief Wade Snider said the fire was largely outside the building in some RV air conditioning units. In addition to those units, the fire at least damaged the wall that they were located next to, and the plant’s sprinkler system turned on automatically, causing some damage, according to Snider.
The fire at the plant off Old U.S. 20 began around 12:30p.m., and about an hour later, firefighters were putting out the remnants and knocking down hotspots,
Snider said. Forest River evacuated employees from the building, and no injuries were reported.
The biggest issue in putting out the fire, Snider said, was that the fence around the plant meant that firefighters had to put around 2,000 feet of line down to get around the building and reach the nearest fire hydrant.

This was the second fire at a Forest River plant in a month. A space heater was blamed for causing a fire at the company’s lamination plant on College Avenue in mid-March. In that case the building was a total loss.
