The following is a report from WNDU 16 News Now.
Lifeline Youth Ministries, in collaboration with THOR Industries, THOR Motor Coach and community members, is celebrating the grand opening of the THOR RV Learning Lab at The HUB.
Located at 2721 Prairie Street, in Elkhart, Indiana, Lifeline’s The HUB will provide vocational training and youth activities for local students.
The collaboration led to the establishment of the THOR RV Learning Lab within The HUB, where students from various schools across Elkhart County undergo training in electrical work, plumbing, cabinet making, and safety protocols.
Currently, the RV Learning Lab is integrated into the curriculum of five school systems across Elkhart County, providing students with hands-on experience in the RV industry.
The expansion of The HUB’s offerings includes four new job training programs, including silk screening, embroidery, graphic design, and sound studio experience. These programs aim to prepare students with practical skills and real-world job experience.
“This is huge, I mean, this is an area of Elkhart that is underserved,” said Bob Martin, president and CEO of THOR Industries. “You walk around here today, there are hundreds of kids that are using this facility for education, the gyms, the playground. It’s just a safe place for the youth of Elkhart, and there’s not much like this out there.”
Students have successfully transitioned after Lifeline’s construction program into the workforce with companies like DJ Construction, Moyer Electric and Landscape Innovations.
