A salesman for a trailer company in Middlebury, Ind., is accused of pocketing – and possibly gambling away – more than $700,000 from sales.
Scott Hagedorn, 55, is charged with theft as a Level 5 felony in a warrant issued Monday. Police said he kept $727,167 in sale proceeds from John’s Trailer Sales between 2016 and 2019.
The warrant was issued after the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office investigated a theft report by the owner of the company in 2019. He claimed that Hagedorn confessed to taking the money and gambling with it in a recorded phone conversation.
According to court documents: John Adams, owner of John’s Trailer Sales, reported the employee theft in March 2019. He said he discovered that money was missing after a new accountant was hired and started checking their books.
Adams said they had not received the money for multiple trailers sold by Hagedorn out of their Middlebury office, at 11055 C.R. 2. He said he found that $216,798 was missing from sales in 2018 and $26,901 was already missing from 2019 sales.
