Walex Debuts Recyclable Packaging

Wilmington, N.C.-based odor control company Walex Products recently started packaging its septic product, Bio-Active Septic Tank Treatment, in recyclable material. The new pouch will be sold in RV dealerships alongside Walex’s popular RV holding tank deodorizers like Porta-Pak, Bio-Pak, Elemonate, and Commando. Walex plans to switch these products to recyclable packaging soon.

“We should all strive for a better sustainability approach,” said Walex RV Sales Manager Tony Butler. “With Bio-Active Septic Tank Treatment, we wanted to set the standard and lead by example to have industry-first recyclable packaging. We look forward to moving our RV/Marine drop-in sanitation products into this recyclable packaging in the future.”

The new Bio-Active Septic pouch is marked with a label created by How2Recycle.org, a program aiming to clarify the recycling process by standardizing instructions and labels. The Bio-Active Septic pouch is labeled as “Store Drop-off,” meaning the customer can take it to a plastic bag recycling bin located at grocery stores and retailers like Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Lowe’s, Target, and many more. The material will then be made into synthetic lumber or recycled directly into another bag.

The switch to recyclable packaging represents Walex’s ongoing mission to reduce its environmental impact, according to Walex President Bill Williams. He recognized his company serves an industry of outdoor enthusiasts and he wanted to ensure Walex’s ethos aligned with that of its customers.

“Walex takes tremendous pride in developing products that are biodegradable and eco- friendly,” said Williams. “Moving into sustainable packaging is the logical option to ensure we are good stewards of the environment and industries we serve.”
