More signs that indicate the industry is still performing strongly but settling down from the manic activity of the past couple of years.
“The general economic news still isn’t great, but there are starting to be a few stories here and there that paint a little brighter picture than the doom and gloom we have been seeing,” said Eric Lawrence at Black Book, in his most recent monthly report. “Several of the RV dealers we have spoken to recently have reported that their inventories are approaching a comfortable level, especially on the towable side, and most have said that floor traffic is good for the time of year.
“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $73,615, which is up $4,667, or 6.7%, from the previous month. Towables came in at $20,257, up $61 (0.3%) from last month. One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $73,183 and the average towable unit brought $23,654.
Auction volume was down: Motorhomes dropped 10.4% while towables declined 24.9%.
The average age of motorhomes was twelve years old (2010) and towables was six (2016).
