Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, July 18, for a home at 1114 Middlebury St. in Elkhart, Indiana.
Joining future homeowner Dyshiea Woods at the event were the city’s Director of Communications Corinne Straight, Winnebago’s Customer Service and Operations Manager Steve Eriksen, Grand Design’s Community Outreach Emily Stahley, Newmar’s Executive Assistant Chelsea Kreigh, Habitat staff and board members, and community members.
The home is sponsored by Winnebago Industries and Winnebago Industries Foundation, marking their sixth year of partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County.
“Connecting families as they make memories together inspires our team at Winnebago Industries. We are honored to partner with Habitat for Humanity and the Woods family,” said Isadora Korak, senior manager of community impact and inclusion at Winnebago Industries Foundation.
Greg Conrad, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County, expressed his enthusiasm. “We love working with Winnebago Industries and partnering with their brands. Habitat is dedicated to providing affordable housing solutions, enabling families to achieve the dream of homeownership. This groundbreaking ceremony is not just a milestone for the Woods family but a significant step towards a stronger community.”
The Woods residence will be a three-bedroom, 1 ½-bath home, providing a safe and stable environment for Dyshiea Woods and her two children, Deneceille, 10, and Maurice, 2. Dyshiea, a dedicated CNA at Storypoint Assisted Living, has successfully completed Habitat’s financial literacy and homeownership classes and said she was thrilled to have selected this lot for her family’s future home.
This home will be the eleventh Habitat for Humanity home built in Elkhart County in 2024.
Founded in 1986, Habitat for Humanity has built 231 new homes in Elkhart County. A ceremony Wednesday at 1114 Middlebury St. in Elkhart the start of construction on the organization’s 11th home in Elkhart County this year.
