According to a report from the Shelby County Reporter, on the afternoon of Friday, March 20, Bish’s RV in Calera, Alabama, presented Billy Neely, a military veteran, with a free camper, marking the conclusion of the local hero giveaway.
Neely serves other veterans through his organization, Veteran Off Road Riders. The mission of the organization is to create a space for veterans to connect with one another. The mission also cares for veterans who may not be ready for traditional forms of therapy yet.
Neely is focused on fighting to reduce veteran suicide and helping service members transition back to civilian life. He accomplishes this through advocacy, partnerships with local veteran organizations and an emphasis on building relationships.
Bish’s RV was searching for a member of the community who had made an impact. After more than a month of searching, Neely was the choice.
“Over the last 30 to 45 days, we’ve asked for people to nominate local heroes in their lives,” said Justin Walls, Bish’s RV regional manager. “Firefighter, teachers, military, police, anyone who’s been a hero or done stuff for the community.
Neely was a popular submission from the beginning of the nominating process. When the window came to an end and it was time to present the local hero with their camper, Neely was easily the right choice.
