40 Under 40: Alex Wallis

A&L RV Sales General Manager, With Company: 5 years

Alex Wallis’ ascent at A&L RV Sales has been quick, thanks to his willingness to be hands on and go the extra mile. He started as a salesman before being promoted to sales manager, and one and half years later, was promoted to general manager, a title he earned during his five years with A&L.

For Alex, no job is too unimportant, and he’s always looking for opportunities to help others. Described as having a knack for sales leadership, Alex also communicates well, is on top of things and provides valuable feedback. He has continued to grow the A&L Columbia store in Tennessee by maximizing the space they have and increasing sales.

“Alex has helped us by staying focused on our core values and what makes us different from our competitors. He has built a strong sales team as well as parts and service. He is a family-oriented person that genuinely cares about everyone at the dealership,” a nominator says of him.

Alex says his hands-on approach with all departments has helped the dealership.

“I am very hands on with all departments, including working in the shop. When I was promoted to this location as the general manager, I focused on fixing their inventory situation and getting the store back on track. I have good relationships with the manufacturers, promote positive morale and create a fun work environment. I do this by being hands on with everything and showing everyone that the phrase, ‘Well, that’s not my job,’ is not part of my vocabulary,” he says.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Growing up camping, Alex and his family go fishing, camping, golfing and hunting.

Another nominator says, “He’s a dedicated, hard-working, family man who operates from Christian values. He loves the RV business and our customers. Great leaders
set the tone and lead the way that Alex always demonstrates. I believe to really
be successful in this business, you have to truly love our customers. We are so blessed to have the customer base that we do in the RV business. Alex fits this
mold perfectly.”

Alex’s advice for upcoming leaders in the RV space:

“Always look a step ahead, and never have the words ‘That’s not my job’ in your vocabulary. Be willing to learn, be hands on and think outside of the box. Most of all have fun, and be friendly with everyone you meet.”
