KOA Adds Locations in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has welcomed the Moose Jaw KOA Journey to the KOA family of campgrounds. Lance Kopan, who is a part of the ownership group team, is a lifelong resident from small town Saskatchewan, Canada, with an appreciation for small-town communities and the outdoors. He and the ownership team bring a community-first mindset and a passion for outdoor experiences. The owners are committed to turning their campground into a space that supports local tourism and economic growth.

Located just a minute off Highway #1 and close to Moose Jaw’s lively downtown, the Moose Jaw KOA Journey provides the perfect mix of accessibility and small-city charm. Whether campers are exploring the city’s iconic tunnels, walking the scenic river valley, or checking out historic downtown shops, the campground serves as a convenient gateway to everything Moose Jaw has to offer.

“We’re thrilled to join the KOA family and help showcase Moose Jaw as the gem that it is,” said Lance Kopan of Moose Jaw KOA Journey. “Our hope is to create a campground where travelers feel at home, make memories and are inspired to explore all the magic our city has to offer.”

Campgrounds have a significant economic and cultural impact on local communities. According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers injected $61 billion into local economies in 2024, with the average camper spending $200 daily while camping. Campers are looking to experience the culture of local regions, with 27% of campers saying they are interested in visiting small towns, and another 27% drawn to food tourism.

Conveniently located near the highways and byways of North America, KOA Journey campgrounds are the perfect stop after a long day on the road, the company said. With long pull-thru RV sites for quick and easy setup, well-lit after-hours check-in and a robust line of RV supplies, KOA Journey campgrounds promise a hassle-free stay for travelers.

The Moose Jaw KOA Journey currently features amenities like spacious RV sites and essentials for a comfortable stay, with future plans underway for a natural gas fireplace, ice cream shop and eventually a whimsical upside-down house to surprise guests. The campground eventually hopes to host community events such as farmers markets and car shows to foster deeper local engagement. With even more amenities planned in phases, the owners aim to blend traditional camping with family-friendly fun and deep local roots. The park’s future vision includes unique attractions, enhanced community programming and a focus on building meaningful connections between visitors and the city of Moose Jaw.

The Moose Jaw KOA Journey is one of more than 500 open-to-the-public KOA campgrounds in the U.S. and Canada. Other brands in the KOA Family of Campgrounds include KOA Holidays, designed as the ideal base camp for the great outdoors, offering plenty of activities and amenities for every type of camper. KOA Resorts provide an abundance of staff-led activities, on-site dining, group meeting space, and more.

Located at 955 Thatcher Drive NE in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the Moose Jaw KOA Journey is open all year.

KOA also recently welcomed Truro/Tidal Bore KOA Holiday to the KOA family of campgrounds. Owners Steve Dinham and Jen Vornbrock are transforming the former Elm River RV Park into a modern outdoor campground, blending Nova Scotia’s natural beauty with upgraded amenities. Dinham and Vornbrock bring 20 years of hospitality experience, including ownership of Yellowknife’s Monkey Tree Pub and Stake Restaurant.

Located just outside Truro, Nova Scotia, the campground sits near the Bay of Fundy, known for some of the world’s highest tides and the Tidal Bore phenomenon. The campground will serve as a basecamp for exploring regional attractions like Victoria Park, berry U-Picks and historic Truro museums, as well as provide enhanced amenities, upgraded facilities and a welcoming environment for families, campers and pet lovers alike.

“We’re thrilled to bring KOA’s hospitality to this incredible region we love so dearly,” said Steve Dinham and Jen Vornbrock, owners of Truro/Tidal Bore KOA Holiday. “In 2023, we had our own cross-country RV adventure with our children that really inspired our transition into campground development. Now, our goal is to leverage our expertise in customer-centric operations to create a welcoming space where families and adventurers can connect with both nature and local culture.”

KOA Holiday campgrounds are ideal base camps for exploring the area or simply enjoying a fun-filled stay with plenty of activities. Whether for a longer getaway or an overnight stop, KOA Holiday campgrounds offer amenities and services that make every stay memorable. Each KOA Holiday offers full-service RV Sites with a KOA Patio and Deluxe Cabins with full bathrooms.

The campground is undergoing a significant expansion, which includes the addition of six bunkies (glamping cabins), two Deluxe Cabins, five new KOA Patio Sites, a KampK9 dog park and three Paw Pen Patio Sites for pet-friendly stays. Other upgrades include a heated pool, a pirate ship playground, an upgraded Kids Club and 40 new fire rings crafted by a local artist. A 7-foot lighthouse, designed by artisans from a Nova Scotia fishing community, will greet visitors at the entrance. The camp store is also being updated to offer local artisan goods, apparel and camping essentials. Additionally, an all-season rental home with a private patio, fire pit and hot tub will be available.

“We’re committed to supporting local businesses and artisans,” added Dinham and Vornbrock, who are relocating to Truro this summer. “From hiring local contractors to showcasing Nova Scotia craftsmanship, we want to make this campground a true community asset.”

The Truro/Tidal Bore KOA Holiday is one of more than 500 open-to-the-public KOA campgrounds in the U.S. and Canada. KOA Resorts offer an abundance of staff-led activities, on-site dining, group meeting space, and more.

Located at 85 Elm River Parkway in Glenholme, Nova Scotia, the Truro/Tidal Bore KOA Holiday opened officially on May 15 and will stay open until Oct. 15. The Deluxe Cabins, however, will be open year-round.
