Amazon Launches Elkhart Delivery Station
According to a report from The Elkhart Truth, Amazon on Wednesday announced the opening of its new 171,000-square-foot delivery station, marking another significant investment in Elkhart County.
Located in Elkhart at 2695 Aeroplex Drive, the facility supports over 250 employees with an average starting wage of $19 per hour and comprehensive benefits. The new delivery station strengthens Amazon’s last-mile delivery network in Northern Indiana, helping speed up deliveries for customers throughout the Michiana region. Packages are shipped to the delivery station from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, loaded into delivery vehicles, and delivered to customers.
Eight local Delivery Service Partners will operate from this location, creating additional opportunities for entrepreneurs to build their own delivery businesses.
Independent contractors can also participate through the Amazon Flex program, offering flexible delivery opportunities. To learn more, visit logistics.amazon.com and flex.amazon.com.
As part of Amazon’s commitment to net-zero carbon by 2040, the Elkhart delivery station will deploy 125 custom-built Rivian electric delivery vehicles.
Amazon has already deployed over 30,000 electric vehicles nationwide, delivering more than 1 billion packages in 2023. With plans for 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030, Amazon is leading the nation’s largest electric delivery fleet rollout, helping eliminate millions of metric tons of carbon annually.
This new facility adds to Amazon’s growing presence in Indiana, which includes more than 26,000 full- and part-time employees across 37 facilities statewide. Since 2010, the company has invested $25.5 billion in the Hoosier State through infrastructure development and employee compensation.
Full-time employees receive industry-leading benefits including comprehensive health, vision and dental insurance, 401(k) with 50% company match, and up to 20 weeks paid parental leave. Through Amazon’s Career Choice program, the company covers full college tuition, high school diplomas, GEDs, and ESL certifications for front-line employees after just three months of employment. Amazon has pledged over $1.2 billion to expand education and skills training for its U.S. workforce, including three new education programs focused on data center maintenance, IT, and user experience design.
