Pricing pressure remains intense, particularly in the wholesale segment, as dealers rush to meet year-end financial goals, said National Powersports Auctions (NPA) in its RV Pre-Owned Report for December. Wholesale prices are experiencing accelerated depreciation, falling at a faster rate than typical seasonal cooling.* Dealers and lenders are highly motivated to clear inventory from the books before year-end, leading to less reserve protection at auction. This makes December arguably the best month for wholesale buyers to secure high-quality units at depressed values, as sellers prioritize capital recovery over margin optimization, NPA said. The greatest segment pressure is concentrated on lower-end, highly-utilized travel trailers and older Class C motorhomes, which are seeing the steepest price drops due to high supply and reduced consumer interest in winter travel.
For NPA dealer members, December offers a clear strategic opportunity. NPA recommends that buyers capitalize on the year-end push by focusing on high-quality, late-model inventory that dealers are liquidating quickly to minimize their tax burden. This is the optimal time to stock up for the spring 2026 rally.
Conversely, sellers must accept that retail demand is minimal, the company said. They should utilize the high-volume wholesale channel (like NPA’s 15 live monthly auctions) to move the remaining 2025 inventory and finalize financial reports quickly. Pricing aggressively ensures a quick sale, freeing up capital for necessary 2026 acquisitions.
