European Caravanning Market Records 215K New Registrations in 2025

The following is a report from AboutcampBtoB.
More than 215,000 new leisure vehicles were registered in Europe during 2025, according to new data from the European Caravan Federation (ECF).
This figure represents a decline of 2.6% compared to the previous year, but the market is still considered to be performing to a very high level, having achieved more than 200,000.
According to the ECF, motorhomes continue to be the main driver for growth in the industry, while caravan registrations are slightly down year-on-year but remain stable.
Overall, motorhomes made up 161,000 of the total, which is an increase of around 0.6% compared to 2024. The caravan segment recorded around 54,200 new registrations in Europe during 2025, which is an 11% decrease compared to the previous year.
The strongest market in Europe remains Germany with an impressive 94,134 new leisure vehicle registrations during 2025. Of that, 75,368 were motorhomes (up 0.9% year-on-year), while 18,766 were new caravans (down 13.4% year-on-year).
The second largest market by new leisure vehicle registrations in Europe was France, with 33,504 units, 26,335 of which were motorhomes. Both those figures are roughly similar to 2024.
The United Kingdom completes the top three largest leisure vehicle markets in Europe with just under 26,000 units in 2025, a decline of around 7% compared to the previous year. Of that figure, about 16,700 were motorhomes, which is up 1.3% on 2024.
“The European caravanning industry continues to demonstrate its overall robustness and adaptability in a challenging global political and economic environment,” said Jost Krüger, secretary general of the ECF.
“The fact that the 200,000 mark for new registrations has once again been exceeded underlines the continuing appeal of motor caravans and caravans as the preferred form of holiday for many people in Europe. The stable demand for motor caravans, the diverse developments in European markets and the very good visitor numbers at caravanning trade fairs throughout Europe speak for the continuing appeal of this form of holiday.
“Overall, the annual results for the European caravanning industry are therefore encouraging.”
Other highlights of the 2025 registration figures saw Italy grow its motorhome registrations by more than 10% to 7,709, while the Netherlands saw 19.1% growth, recording 2,937 new motorhome registrations. New motorhome registrations in Sweden grew by an impressive 46.6%, reaching 4,201.
Solid growth of around 11% was also recorded in the still young motor caravan markets in Poland and Czechia, underlining their growing importance in the overall European caravanning market.
The only countries that recorded growth in the caravan segment were the Netherlands (+3.4% to 7,400 new registrations) and Poland.
